Abundance #5—Abundant Life

The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that my people might have life, and might have it abundantly. John 10:10

Through Jesus God offers us the ultimately satisfying life. Therefore, it will be an ultimately joy-filled life. It will be one of bold adventure, as he leads us each day into a world filled with dangerous enemies and hidden snares. No matter where we go, Jesus will see that our needs are met so we can complete our missions; and he will protect us as we feed on his gracious provision. In our relationship with him, we will sense the security and stability and satisfaction we need to be truly joyful—and therefore, grateful—in every circumstance. The satisfaction he offers comes not only from his provision for our daily needs, but also from the change he produces in us. When we receive the Holy Spirit because we worship the Father through Jesus, we obtain a source of satisfaction that never runs dry. Like an eternally flowing spring he satisfies the thirsting of our souls. He fills the deepest desire of our hearts for a connection with God, so we are able to resist opportunities to fill our hearts with the paltry pleasures devised by finite creatures, such as power or position. He even overflows from our hearts to water the ground around us with God’s love.

O may I drink my fill of the abundance of your house; for you give me to drink of the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life in Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
