Abundance #4—Forgiving Abundance

Let the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them return to the Eternal, for he will have compassion on them; indeed, to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:7

“As far as the east is from the west” is abundant pardon. God will remove the power and punishment of our sin from us an infinite distance. Casting our sins into the “depths of the sea,” where they are utterly inaccessible, is abundant pardon. God’s “completely removing our sins from his memory” is abundant pardon. “Making Jesus, who had not sinned, to be sin for us,” is abundant pardon. No vestige of anger remains in God’s heart toward us when he forgives. Rather, he opens to us the fullest possible joy in fellowship with him. With such absolute and guaranteed assurance, we ought to be able to abandon our self-centered ways of living for the Lord’s god-centered and loving ways. We ought to be able to give up our futile, darkened ways of thinking, so we can walk in the light, as he is in the light. If we come to him, repenting of our arrogant unbelief, we “will go out with joy, and be led forth with peace. The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before us, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”

Merciful Father, I will live according to your desire, trusting you for all I need and honoring you in all I do. For your righteousness sake, in Jesus’ name, abundantly pardon me for the times I fail in this commitment. Amen.
