Living Wisely #1—Satisfying Wisdom

Wisdom’s profit is better than the profit of silver, and its gain than fine gold. … Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; happy are all who hold her fast. Proverbs 3:13–18

How much more enticing can God be? Living wisely is clearly the very best way to live. To live wisely is to make choices we will never regret making … never! Here are five inducements to heed his entreaties: 1) Fiscal investments can only produce fiscal returns, which can be lost or grow boring, but no one can take away or diminish the value of what wisdom will do for us. 2) Every doctor knows that those who live according to God’s design will not die of self-induced disease processes. 3) Given the cultural framework into which we are born, wise people will be more truly appreciated and will enjoy a better standard of living than the foolish wicked. 4) None of God’s commands are burdensome or loathsome; who would not be pleased to be a loving person? 5) When we follow God’s wise way, we will we will have a wonderful and joyful sense of well-being forever. Living wisely is as close to being back in the Garden of Eden as we can experience until the Lord returns and restores his creation.

Wise Sovereign, bind your ways to my heart so I will delight to do your will, and experience the delight of living wisely in it. Amen.
