The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of The Eternal as the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14
The conquerors and kings who built the Egyptian, Persian, Incan, Aztec, Carthaginian, Roman, and British empires are all dead. The blood they mixed into the mortar binding the stones of their monuments was not sufficient to keep them from disintegrating. Glory was their goal, but their names, as well as their cities, are all dust. Few remember, fewer care. Any sand castles we attempt to construct as memorials to our own power and prowess are doomed to the same fate. Whatever flames of fame we might ignite will be drowned in the ocean of God’s glory. He will destroy those who destroy life to lift themselves up. But he will grant eternal life to those who seek glory, honor and immortality by persevering in doing good so that God is seen as the source of the good we do. If we would trust God to provide the grace we need; if we would rejoice so much in this grace, that we worked to extend it to our neighbors for their good; if we would praise God for the grace and joy that have flowed through us; then the ocean of his glory would begin to fill the earth. Today the heavens declare the glory of God, but hardly anyone pays attention. One day all eyes will “see” and all ears will “hear.” Floods of glory are hard to miss.
Most holy God, open my eyes today, so I may behold the wonders of your glorious grace!
