Guidance #4—Guidance to Joy

You will make known to me the path of life. Satisfying joys are in your presence and the pleasures at your right hand are unending. Psalm 16:11

Because God is eternal the sources of joy he offers can be stable, secure and satisfying. Therefore we can be as confident as David that he will guide us down the path to eternal life rather than eternal destruction. We can be confident of being led to where we will forever experience the riches of his grace in useful kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. We can be confident of eternally receiving joyful pleasures from the hand of our Creator. To have this confidence we must make the Eternal the source of our good. If we declare “You have my allegiance; I have no good besides you,” he will counsel us. Indeed, he will instruct us. When we see him as our inheritance, when we continually make fellowship with the Eternal our goal, nothing will shake us, for he will be at our right hand and he will extend his right hand to us. We can be glad no matter where we dwell and no matter what professional circumstances we experience. For he will cause us to see the big picture. His light in our darkness will turn the rugged places into plains. He did not abandon Jesus to death; neither will he abandon us when we take refuge in him.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me. Then lead me in the way of life” in Jesus’ name. Amen.
