Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven consists of these. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:3–6
O Lord, it was not because of, or in spite of, my intellect or appearance or wealth or position that you chose me. I am a vapor; you are the Eternal Breath. I am a speck of dust; you are the Weight of Glory. I am a drop in the ocean; you are the Endless Fountain. I am a creature; you are the Creator. I am sustained; you are the Sustainer. In you I live and move and have my being. You hold me together by your powerful command. If you ceased to think of me, I would cease to be. When I was dead in my trespasses and sins, you made me alive. When I was a slave to sin, you set me free. When I was a subject of the Prince of Darkness, you transferred me to the kingdom of the Light of the World. Now by the power of the Holy Spirit I destroy wicked deeds that would ruin my life. How glorious is the cross by which I was crucified to the world and the world to me! I was brought low, and you saved me. So my soul returns to its rest. For you have dealt bountifully with me. You rescued my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from stumbling. Through Jesus hear my joy. Amen.
