While John’s gospel does not contain an infancy narrative, his first letter is most insistent about the reality and significance of the incarnation. So today we celebrate the incarnation from the context of 1 John.
Eternal life, immeasurable love,
Existed as the Father and the Son
Together shared the joy and glory of
The perfect fellowship which makes them one.
Exultant joy exploded into grace
As Jesus demonstrated faithful life
To people locked inside of time and space,
Imprisoned by eternal hate and strife.
So here we are, a long way down the line;
The starry sky and angel choirs are gone,
His baptism, cross and resurrection past.
The message, though, the word of life divine
That touched our hearts and minds continues on,
Perfecting us till he returns at last.
