God has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of David his servant … to grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him fearlessly, always living before him in a way that is holy and right. Luke 1:69–75
Before the Son of God took on flesh and blood so that through his death he might take the power of death away from the devil, we were slaves to the fear of death. But now we can be free from fear! Every day! Jesus is the one who frees us from fear. Because of Jesus, we need not fear the wrath of God. We need not fear what evil people can do to us. We need not fear diseases of the body or mind. We need not fear natural catastrophes. We need not fear the mistakes of our own finitude. He will deliver us from them all. Because we are more than conquerors in Christ, we can exemplify holiness; we can live righteously before the One who saved us through Jesus. He delivered us so that we might live under his lordship in a way that honors him, that demonstrates the superiority of his rule and administration, and that benefits those around us. As our Eternal King, he works for those who hope in him. When we faithfully obey only his commands, his benefits expand to fill his kingdom, and no one can take these away. Such service is not only holy and right, but exceedingly joyful.
Lord Jesus, thank you for creating an environment in which we can live free from fear. By the power of your Spirit, cause my faith to work itself out in holy love for all I meet.
