Freedom #10—Praises for Freedom

Thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. Romans 6:17–18

Liberating Lord, I have never felt so free as when I am bound to you. When I was bound to my commitment to self-sufficiency and self-exaltation, I had only a terrible prospect of suffering your wrath. For the inevitable consequence of my sin is death. Before I encountered the message of your grace, I didn’t even realize it; so I was bound by ignorance as well as iniquity. Now, having been freed from my sin and its consequence, I can enjoy the freedom of being your subject. My commitment to entrust my future to you frees me from the fear of bearing that burden on my own. Seeing your instructions for life as the best way to live frees me from having to figure it all out on my own. And they free me to experience the joy of your approval and blessing. Following you in the obedience of faith frees me to be of benefit to people everywhere as I extend your grace to them. What’s more amazing is that by being your subject living righteously before you, I have unhindered access to your presence. Because of my commitment to you and your instruction, you are committed to allow me to engage with the saints and angels for worship, adoration and praise. How blessed I am to be bound to the Gracious One who made heaven and earth, who keeps faith forever, and who sets the prisoner free with wise words, a powerful Spirit, and the joy of eternal life! Amen.
