Blessed be the God … of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
The comfort of God is effective in any affliction, because the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ raises the dead. The comfort of God is available in every affliction, because he wants us to entrust ourselves to him as the One who raises his people from the dead. The comfort of God is transferable to all who are afflicted, because God’s comfort is abundant in Christ Jesus whom he raised from the dead. Knowing that all who are united to Christ will be raised from the dead comforts our hearts so we will be able to patiently endure any affliction that comes along. This knowledge puts everything in perspective, the eternal, perfect joy of the time to come, in contrast to the fleeting and faulty pleasures of temporal culture. It also persuades us that since we will ultimately be victorious over our adversaries, we can continue to demonstrate how totally satisfying God is to us, by letting nothing deter us from attaining unhindered access to him. The One who will save us from the evil of death at the end of life, will sustain us in our experience of evil now.
Father of mercies, bless me so I might bless; heal me so I might heal; comfort me so I might comfort. Extend your grace through me, so thanksgiving will abound in Jesus’ name. Amen
