Living Wisely #2 — Wisely Agile

I have directed you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in upright paths. When you walk, your steps will not be impeded; and if you run, you will not stumble. … He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks wisely will be delivered. Proverbs 4:11-12; 28:26

Picking a path among the antipersonnel mines that litter the landscape of life is perilous work. Avoiding the trip wires of all the satanic booby-traps we will encounter is no easy task when we’re racing along at super-highway speeds. To the extent that we rely on our own intelligence gathering abilities, and sort out our own tactical path, we can expect to incur many nagging and debilitating injuries. But if we remember the Lord has a better perspective, and if we follow his wise counsel, we can enjoy success and the absence of self-inflicted injury. Wisdom-living is about worship-living. If, in all that we do, we seek to display the surpassing worth of Jesus Christ, instead of trying to live so that he applauds our worth, we will experience not the wrath of God, but the glory of his goodness, both now and for eternity. The promise to those who follow God’s wise way through the mine field is courage and joy, courage to take the next step and joy in living.

Heavenly Father, open my ears to your wise words, my heart to your perfect counsel, my eyes to the path in front of me, and my will to the prompting of your Spirit, so I walk aright. Amen.
